About the REPRESA Project
The REPRESA project aims to better understand and reduce the risks associated with tropical cyclones in Madagascar, Malawi, and Mozambique — three countries highly exposed to these disasters. In recent years, cyclones such as Idai (2019) and Freddy (2023) have caused massive human losses, displacement, and severe economic damage, further exacerbating the vulnerability of already precarious populations.
Despite the existence of Early Warning Systems (EWS), their effectiveness remains limited because they do not fully cover all risks (rainfall, wind, combined flooding). REPRESA proposes an innovative approach that combines high-resolution climate modeling, analysis of social vulnerabilities, community engagement, and the strengthening of local capacities.
